We are back!

March 2009 was as slow as it gets.

The reason? Elections for the new management team at Pakistan Association.

The elections are finally over with the "Pak Friends" panel winning by an overwhelming majority. Click here to read Gulf News coverage.

This was one historic vote. Never in the history of the association has there been such a large voter turnout. Out of a total electorate of 2308 people, 1960+ turned up to vote!!! Thats a nice 85% turnout! Quite amazing considering just a couple of years back the association was under the administration of a few people who were the least bit bothered about getting Pakistanis interested in the association. Well this is a move for the better. The more Pakistanis coming to the association the more the management will be on their toes trying to keep things in shape!  :-)

Anyway, in the end, Pak Friends won by a margin of 140+ votes - quite a resounding victory.

So what does YCP have to do with the elections? Well apart from the fact that the Pakistan Association is the parent organization of the YCP, our members were present at every moment in the build up and on election day. From the creation of voters lists, to the verification process right down to election day duties at the association and camp offices, YCP played their part in making the elections as smooth and efficient as possible!

While not taking all the credit :) we did play a part in ensuring things went well. Hamza, Kaleem, Saif, Sami, Tayyab, Umar and Talha were volunteering at the camp office on election day while Wajid, Qasim and Sohail volunteered in the voting area. And of course the seniors Zeeshan, Asmat and Ibrahim bhai were there along with Tahir and Jahangir bhai! It was one very well rounded team effort! Note: please forgive me if i forgot some names - there were so many of us there :)

While elections tend to be pretty tense affairs in Pakistan, this one went of surprisingly smoothly. There were a few tense moments no doubt, but in a very unique display of cooperation both sides sat down together on multiple occasions and sorted out any differences amongst themselves!

In the end we believe that one panel may have won, but the real victory was for the Pakistani community which did itself proud by displaying such discipline. Now lets carry our goodwill from the elections over to the work at the association! We hope all sides can work together to make the Pakistani community stronger and better organizaed here in the Emirates...!

The Youth Club shall Insha Allah play its part in working with the management team at the association!

Check out the profile of the newly elected panel. They seem promising :)

Congratulations Pakistan!

clock March 22, 2009 21:30 by author Talha

23rd March 1940, our inspirational leaders came together to lay the foundation for Pakistan. Their energy and passion would see the creation of a country that today proudly is our identity.

Some would ask whether that energy and passion from all those years back is missing.

Well the answer is a resounding NO.

The energy today is present in our youth.
Stronger than ever
The passion to change.
To inspire. To lead. To innovate.
And most of all to be a source of pride for a nation of 160 million lively souls.

Let us resolve today to remain united and use our talents and energy for the good of our nation. Let us work hard so that the generations to come would look to us as a source of pride and inspiration - just as we look to our leaders from 1940 with the greatest respect.

We at the Youth Club of Pakistan would like to congratulate all Pakistanis on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
